Mongolian judoka S. Mollaei wins silver at Tokyo Olympics



On July 27, Mongolian judoka Saeid Mollaei stepped onto the mat against Japanese judoka Takanori Nagase in the final match of the men’s 81 kg weight class. He was defeated by the Japanese judoka by waza-ari in Golden Score over time, claiming the silver medal.


The Iranian-born Mongolian judoka was presented his awards on the Olympic podium by the former President of Mongolia Kh. Battulga, who issued a decree on Granting Mongolian citizenship to the athlete in 2019.

With the silver medal, the National Olympic Team has gone up from 42nd to 33rd in the official medal table for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Athletes of a total of 206 countries are competing in the Olympics.
